Meet Tucker the father of my upcoming 1/23 litter. He is owned by another local family as I wanted to keep more diverse bloodlines in my program. Tucker is a handsome dark red “field golden” who is a bit on the smaller side for a male at 65 lbs. He has an athletic build, long silky hair, a fluffy tail & very expressive chocolate eyes. He came prancing up with his big fluffy tail wagging excitedly to greet me. His family says he is a very sweet social guy & has a fantastic gentle temperament.

Progressive Retinal Atrophy, PRCD- carries copy but is not affected. A dog needs 2 copies to symptomatically have PRCD & would need to be bred to a female who also carries it in order to have puppies that would have PRCD. Because Rosie is fully clear none of the puppies will be affected by PRCD (one of the important reasons to test both parents).
Meru
Meru is an absolute doll. This girl lives with her guardian dad who takes her everywhere with him, you may see her on the road with her head out his Jeep's window on their way to hike a mountain, swim in the ocean or take a run in the desert. I think Meru may have visited more places in the US in the last 2.5 years than I have. Meru is always down for an adventure, is loyal & may or may not think she is part human. She likes to talk to people, not in an obnoxious way but at times she will cock her head to the side and let out a deep woof expecting you to understand her. Some of Meru's favorite thing to do are swimming in any water she can find, going on long hikes with her dad & most of all cuddling up with her humans & falling asleep on them for hours at a time. When she visits here, she insists on sleeping right next to me in bed much to the chagrin of my girls.

OFA Elbow: DJD 1 : One of Meru's Elbows was injured as a puppy from a jump from too high a surface while her joints were still developing hence there is a small chip in the elbow that prevents her from passing OFA elbows. I have discussed this with my reproductive specialist & had her evaluate the elbow x-rays. Her opinion is that the issue we are seeing is from an injury not a hereditary cause. For this reason, & her otherwise excellent health testing results & temperament my vet thinks that she has so much to contribute to the Bernese breed that she is an excellent addition to my program. I have paired her with a male on the smaller side with excellent elbows.

Meet Westley the father to Bernese Mountain dog pups here! His name is inspired by the valiant hero Westley in “The Princess Bride”. He is a very well-structured boy with a thick fluffy coat. Westley is a very laid-back boy especially for a 2.5 year old. He spends a lot of time napping on the couch with the girls but if I’m there he watches me very intently often with a curious, expressive head tilt. His favorite treat is string cheese which he very delicately nibbles from my hand
Westley is 85 lb. & his health clearances are:
OFA Elbows - Normal
OFA Hips - Fair
OFA Cardiac - Normal
OFA Patella - Normal
OFA Dentition - Normal

Animal Genetic testing:

DM SOD1A - Carries one copy out of two.
*Degenerative myelopathy is inherited in an Autosomal Recessive manner in dogs meaning that they must receive two copies of the mutated gene (a copy from each parent) to develop the disease. Westley will have all clear puppies as Holly is 100% clear. Link to more info: Paw Print Genetics - Degenerative Myelopathy
Ellie
Ellie is my sweet AKC Bernese Mountain dog girl. She is my younger brothers companion & as sweet and layed back as most dogs twice her age! I am always joking that she is an "old soul" because she is so calm & gentle for a teenage dog. Her favorite command is "sit" which she always completes with a very expressive head cock while she waits for her reward. I think her brown eyebrows just make her look that much more expressive & cute all the time!
Her & I are currently working towards our AKC Canine Good Citizen certification.
